Bachelor of Science (BS), Secondary Chemistry Education (9-12)

Program Overview

The Secondary Chemistry Studies program will equip you to be a well-rounded teacher. You will complete coursework in your area of study and in foundational educational theories to build your expertise in the science of teaching. Your professors have all taught in school systems themselves, so they will prepare you well for a career in education. By completing this College of Education degree, you will learn the essential skills to become a builder of knowledge, values, and community. At Anderson University, our vision is for each child to be taught by an effective educator who embodies those traits. You will have the opportunity to hone these skills through student teaching and other opportunities.

In addition to Anderson’s educational core, Secondary Chemistry Studies candidates complete course work in both their area of study and in educational pedagogy. Your curriculum will be balanced between building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your expertise in the science of teaching.

You will be prepared to earn your teaching certification for the state of South Carolina for Secondary Chemistry (9-12). Current state regulations also allow you to use this certification in 7th and 8th grade positions. Certified secondary science educators are in high demand and your certification will be recognized by many states. You can teach in a variety of places, explore additional career opportunities, or continue your higher education journey. Our graduates work in charter, public, and private schools; agencies that specialize in child development, education advocacy, and ministry. Our College of Education graduates are known for their professionalism, competence, and desire to shape South Carolina’s high school students.
