About AU

Knowledge for your Journey

Located in the vibrant city of Anderson, in the rapidly growing region of Upstate South Carolina, Anderson University is a selective, Christian, comprehensive university offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees on campus, online and at the University Center in Greenville. Students may choose from 50 major degree programs, 29 concentrations, 48 minors, 18 master’s and doctoral degrees and eight certification programs.

Anderson University is among the fastest-growing private universities in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Education and the Chronicle of Higher Education Almanac. Increased enrollment only tells part of the story, however; the reason for it is Anderson’s reputation as a premier institution of higher learning and status among the best regional universities in the South as recognized by both U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review. Further, U.S. News & World Report for 2023 named Anderson as one of the “Best Value” schools among regional universities in the South, and the Wall Street Journal for 2022 named Anderson #25 for best student engagement among all universities in the United States.

At the heart of our educational program is an uncompromising commitment to the liberal arts as a means of preparing students with both a breadth and depth of knowledge they need, not only to be successful in the career of their choice, but to be successful in all realms of life—in family, community, work, and church.

Four Pillars of Distinction

From our humble beginnings to our growth into South Carolina’s largest private institution of higher learning, Anderson University has sought to provide a transformational education experience within an intentionally Christian environment. At the heart of the University’s mission is an uncompromising commitment to great academics, great faith, great hospitality, and great purpose.

Great Academics

Ours is a comprehensive, entrepreneurial, and rigorous learning experience that emphasizes the intellectual and practical skills central to each student’s journey.

Great Faith

As a comprehensive university, the main thing we do is teach. As a distinctly Christian institution, the most important thing we do at Anderson University is bear witness to Christ. In short, faith and learning is integrated in every classroom.

Great Hospitality

At Anderson University, we pride ourselves on the relentless pursuit of hospitality. It is an essential part of our culture. We’re known for our warm, supportive, and close family atmosphere.

Great Purpose

Anderson University educates the complete person: mind, body, and soul. Here, students grow in knowledge, personal health, professional experience, teamwork, and faith. AU doesn’t just address what students know, but also what they believe, what they are called to do, and, most importantly, what kind of person they want to be.

Recent National Recognitions

Anderson University is one of the premier, private Christian universities in the country. Known among its peers as an institution that provides a rigorous educational experience, grounded in faith and innovation, AU is regularly recognized by national organizations for affordability, excellence, and a commitment to our student’s engagement and growth.
