Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Educational Systems Administration: Superintendency Certification

Program Overview

If you hold an active credential in administration and supervision with work experience in traditional public, private, and/or online education settings and are looking to obtain superintendent certification, this program may be for you. The Ed.S. in Educational Systems Administration degree equips you with a Superintendent Certification through the South Carolina Department of Education and will teach you to lead at the district level. This program includes a two-semester internship, which is included in the core coursework. These internships provide guided clinical experiences under the supervision and direction of a superintendent or senior-level district leader. This 33-credit hour program is offered in a HyFlex format allows you to attend synchronous classes virtually or in person throughout the week.

Admission Requirements
A master’s degree related to Education is required to enroll in this program.
Official undergraduate and master’s transcripts will need to be submitted as part of the application process for this program.

Applicants in pursuit of the Ed.S.’s Superintendency Leadership concentration are required to hold a valid credential issued by the SCDE, with an endorsement in educational administration. Not an admission requirement: the State Department requires 2 years of administrative experience (no time limit) before certification (students can still be admitted to the program). Nested option is only for students who started with Anderson University and cannot come from another institution’s Ed.S. program for the nested option.

The application deadline is one (1) month/thirty (30) days before a term start date.

Anderson University accepts students on the basis of academic qualification, character, and evidence of the potential to benefit from the university experience. Each applicant’s record is examined for evidence reflecting potential for intellectual and social growth, strength of character, and seriousness of purpose. The minimum requirements for acceptance into the Ed.S. in Educational Systems Administration program include:

  • A master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related educational field
  • A GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • A personal statement about your motivation to pursue your Ed.S.
  • Two professional letters of recommendation (one must be from your immediate supervisor)
  • A valid Professional Teaching Certificate issued by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE), with certification in educational administration
  • Three or more years experience as a Pre-K12 orpostsecondary teacher, as well as two or more years as a school of district administrator, post secondary administrator, or school of business administrator
  • Professional resume or curriculum vitae
