College of Arts and Sciences

Bachelor of Science (BS), Environmental Science

Program Overview

The Environmental Science program teaches you biology, chemistry, and ecology, as well as the social sciences and communication to assess, mediate, and manage human impact upon natural environments. You’ll study in a close-knit community, have access to nearby habitats and laboratories, have internship opportunities, and gain an understanding of environmental stewardship. Your calling to use science to care for the environment can lead to a myriad of careers in many different fields with an environmental focus.

When you graduate from Anderson University, you’ll have the skills to perform environmental assessments, which developers need before breaking ground on projects. You’ll know how to apply for storm water permits and complete environmental surveys, which screen for endangered plants and animals and wetlands. In short, you’ll be equipped to serve as an environmental consultant and create the reports your clients need to build or develop in a region. In addition, you’ll have the skills to perform environmental research and educate the public on environmental issues. You’ll be prepared for work or graduate study in the following fields: environmental consulting, industry compliance, research, government and environmental agencies, wildlife biology (monitoring population changes), environmental toxicology, natural resource management, environmental engineering (e.g. design wastewater treatment plant), marine biology, and biology.
