Jody Bryant

Associate Vice President for Guest and Auxiliary Services

Jody Bryant
Using my gifts to help others make me tick.

My brain works double time thinking of ways to improve, increase efficiency and meet more needs. Whether I am at my desk, in the grocery line or at home, my brain is entertained by asking the question, “How could I make this better?” I am not the person who thinks they are the smartest person in the room, but I do embrace how my brain works differently and try to help others whenever I can.

I served in the Marines for 5 years...

and I have lived in nine states as an adult and moved from coast to coast. Anderson is my husband’s hometown, and we moved here in 2009 to be closer to his family.

My job at AU was my first position in higher ed.

Prior to that, I spent most of my years in hospitality. I managed a chain of restaurants for 10 years prior to moving to South Carolina.

I’m a big fan of AU events...

but I can’t help but smile a little bigger when I see All Access on the calendar. In my early days at AU, I had the chance to plan admission events, and witnessing a prospective student discover their college home during a visit to AU is one of the main reasons I remain in higher education.

If I had to rewrite my job title...

it would be hospitality queen, gap filler, other duties as assigned or logistics nerd. Our department is constantly evolving, which makes it challenging to explain what I do. I usually simplify it during introductions to “I work with events on campus,” but that just scratches the surface of what I do.

Most people think I work with food service or manage the Student Center.

In addition to overseeing our food service partner, our area engages in all events for our internal campus community and external partners. We also oversee Summer Programs on campus like Palmetto Boys State and Crossroads Summer Camp. Guest Services’ mission is to infuse every event with enthusiastic support, trusted expertise and Anderson University’s signature hospitality. That is hard to quantify but really fun and challenging to do.
