1. Create an Online Admissions Portal Account
- Be sure to indicate Primary Citizenship and Dual Citizenship (if applicable) when prompted
- After the portal account has been created, you can select and complete the application form

Acceptable Forms of Proof of English Language Proficiency
Anderson University requires English language proficiency. Proof of English proficiency must be sent directly from the testing agency to Anderson University’s Office of Graduate Admissions or dataentryocl@andersonuniversity.edu.
Please submit ONE of the following scores to prove English language proficiency:
- A TOEFL score of at least 550 paper-based or 75 internet-based or above
- A band score of 6 on IELTS or above
- A Duolingo English Test score of 100 or above
- Successful completion of level 112 of the Intensive English for Academic Purposes Program from an ELS (English Language Center)
- Please note that Anderson University must receive an official Academic Report and copy of the ELS Certificate directly from ELS.
- Agape level 5 (Agape is an English Language Center)
- Pearsons PTE of 50 or above
- iTEP of 3.7 or above
- Graduation from a university where English was the language of instruction.
- Testing
- Some graduate programs require testing, recommendations, and additional materials. We cannot accept scans of test scores. Test scores must come directly from the testing service to Anderson University.
- Transcripts
- Graduate applicants must submit official transcripts in their native language for all secondary and/or postsecondary coursework, along with certified, literal (exact) English translations for documents not originally issued in English. All official documents must be sent directly from the issuing institution, examining body, evaluation or translation service. We cannot accept transcripts for application sent directly from the student.
- Evaluation of Academic Credentials
- All graduate applicants must submit secondary and college or university credentials from non-U.S. institutions to a foreign credential evaluation for a course-by-course evaluation with grade point average calculation.
Recommended Evaluation Service
For an evaluation service that is recommended and can offer expedited services, we recommend SpanTran. It is an evaluation service with a custom portal for Anderson University international students to help you obtain a course-by-course evaluation with grade point average calculation. This includes a discounted rate since you are applying to Anderson University. You can apply with their custom SpanTran Evaluation Application.
Once completed, SpanTran will send an official, electronic copy of your evaluation to Anderson University. (Transfer students are required to submit a course-by-course evaluation for proper credit evaluation and credit transfer review.)
We also accept any evaluation service listed with the National Association of Credential Services. The credential evaluation report must be sent directly from the evaluation service to Anderson University’s Office of Admission and include the cumulative GPA. Such agencies like WES, ECE, or any NACES approved evaluation are accepted.
We cannot accept transcripts sent directly from the student or university. We require official evaluations of academic documentation.
- Scholarships
- There are no scholarships for these graduate programs. We also do not have any assistantships available. International students must show proper documents to show their ability to afford at least one year of academic study.
- Bank Statement
- Once you are informed of your scholarship by our international admissions department, please see the scholarship summary for additional information and estimated amount required for I-20 issuance.
- I-20 Issuance
- If the program is online or hybrid with minimal in person hours of instruction, international students cannot be issued an I-20.
Graduate Programs for I-20 Issuance
Anderson University offers a broad range of graduate programs. Each graduate program has unique application guidelines and documents required. Please make sure that the program to which you are applying is currently eligible for I-20 issuance if your goal is to enter the USA and attend classes in person at Anderson University. Programs that are completely online are not eligible for I-20 issuance. Hybrid programs that have low residency or limited (in person) faculty contact hours are also not approved for I-20 issuance. The graduate programs currently available for I-20 issuance are:

We have the fees for the academic year. Your I-20 will confirm the exact amount that you are receiving.
I-20 Cost of Attendance
The I-20 figure is not the exact cost of attendance. You do not need to pay it up front. The I-20 figure is the estimated cost of attendance at Anderson University for one academic year. It includes additional costs that US Homeland Security mandates us to include so that you understand how much it would cost to live in the USA for at least one year. If financial statements are not in your name, we will need an additional sponsor statement on file of the person or persons who will be your sponsor while you are studying. This form will be given to you once you apply and are accepted. Please review our 24/25 international I-20 cost of attendance for additional information below. I-20 Issuance – Expedited! We are excited to assist you with your international application! Once you are accepted, your I-20 will be issued to you within two to three days! (Acceptance, passport, bank statement, and sponsorship form must also be submitted before I-20 can be issued.) Are there graduate scholarships or assistantships available?
Unfortunately, there are no scholarships or graduate assistantships available to graduate international applicants.
Do I need English language proficiency?
Anderson University requires English language proficiency. Proof must be sent directly from the testing agency to Anderson University’s Office of Graduate Admissions. See a complete list of English proficiency tests we accept here.
You do not need to show proof of English language proficiency if the main level of instruction in the school you attended was English and this can be documented.
Can I send in scans of documents?
All academic materials must be official and sent from the institution directly to Anderson University. We also require an English translation of academic credentials and an official evaluation of all foreign academic credentials.
I-20 Issuance
Can I obtain an I-20 for a graduate program that is all online?
US Homeland Security regulations prohibit international students from entering the USA on an F1 visa for programs that are online. International students can apply for online graduate programs that are not eligible for I-20 issuance and remain in their home country to study.
When will I get my I-20?
You will receive your i-20 in less than three days of acceptance if all the additional financial documentation and proof of support is submitted.
What financial support am I required to show for I-20 issuance?
Each graduate student will be required to provide a recent financial statement to show enough financial support for their studies for at least one year. If the student has a sponsor, they must complete a sponsorship form which admissions will provide to them. Showing proof that you or your sponsor has the financial means to support their education helps us to verifying your financial support with Anderson University and also prepares you for demonstrating to the US Embassy/Consulate that you can afford your education. Demonstrating that you have sufficient funding is important to a successful application for an F1 visa.

How do I obtain an F1 student visa?
Once you are accepted and show proper financial documentation, sponsorship form, and we obtain a copy of your passport, you will be issued an I-20 by the Center for Global Engagement. You pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee before you schedule a visa appointment with the US Embassy in your home country. The Center for Global Engagement will provide you with steps to take to pay the SEVIS fee, how to apply for a visa, and other pre-departure assistance when you are sent your I-20.
Can I have more than one sponsor?
Yes, you can have more than one sponsor. However, each needs to complete a sponsorship form and show their financial statements as well.
What is SEVIS?
SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is the system used to create and maintain immigration records for F1 students.
Can I waive the mandatory health insurance fee?
All international students in F1 visa status will be charged a mandatory health insurance fee each semester. Unfortunately, this charge cannot be waived for any reason. If you already have purchased insurance, or if you have a policy from your home country you still cannot waive it. Insurance is mandatory for F1 international students.
At Anderson University
Can I work on campus?
You can work legally on campus for 20 hours a week and full-time (40 hours) a week when school is not in session. You can research on campus employment opportunities at the Center for Career Development for student aide positions that are available.
Can international students intern off campus?
While you are on an F1 visa, you cannot work legally off campus. You can only work legally off campus if your graduate degree program has an available internship course which you are required to take for credit. The Center for Global Engagement can assist you with additional information about internships if your program offers it.
Is on campus housing available for graduate students?
On campus housing is not available for graduate students. International students who apply for I-20 eligible programs and enter the USA will need to find housing off campus.
Can I bring my family with me to study?
If you wish to bring your family, they must be dependents and you would need to show additional funding in a financial statement in order to prove that you can provide for them while studying in the USA and not working.
How can I meet other international students?
Since you will be taking classes in person with your peers, you will have the opportunity to make friends with a wide variety of American students on campus. There are also groups and organizations you can join to help you become socially engaged. However, all international students are automatically members of the International Students Organization (ISO) and you receive email communication regarding events that bring together the entire campus community. The ISO is a student led group which is open to all members of the student community and includes domestic students as well. They sponsor coffee nights, dinners, and help celebrate American traditions so that international students can become engaged with the larger campus community.
Is there on campus support for international students?
The Center for Global Engagement advises international students with immigration regulations and assists students with their adjustment to American culture, and the larger campus community. They also support international students by helping them navigate life in the United States as a college student. We also help students obtain their SC driver’s permit and license, as well as assist with obtaining a social security number, and verification of student status. The Center for Global Engagement also sponsors events geared towards the needs and interests of the international student community such as: orientation, immigration workshops, cultural events, bowling nights, Thanksgiving Dinner, international coffee nights, and more!

The Center for Global Engagement assists new and continuing students with issues ranging from immigration-related concerns to adjustment to American culture and life in the United States. We offer a supportive environment where students from more than 35 countries receive counseling and assistance in an understanding and caring environment.
