College of Christian Studies

Master of Divinity (M.Div.)

Program Overview

The Master of Divinity prepares you for the ministry, as well as for doctoral studies in ministry and theology. You’ll learn how to accurately interpret scripture passages, use the biblical languages for greater understanding, and integrate theological truth with ministry effectiveness. Your courses will help you learn how to relate to people, organize a church, manage staff, and oversee a budget. The program also includes an internship, during which you’ll gain hands-on experience at a church. Upon program completion, you’ll be prepared for roles like senior or associate pastor, youth minister, children’s minister, worship leader, hospital chaplain, military chaplain, and mission worker.

Your classes, like Preaching, will teach students how to develop a sermon from its idea and structure to its delivery. Our sequence of leadership courses helps you learn how to relate to people, organize a church, manage staff, and oversee a budget. The program also includes an internship, during which you can work at a church alongside a senior pastor, music minister, or youth minister to get hands-on training.

When you graduate from this program you will be equipped for a career as a pastor, missionary, church staff member, denominational leader, or teacher. You will also be ready for graduate school if you choose to pursue a Ph.D. or D.Min. degree.
