College of Education

Bachelor of Science (BS), Elementary Education

Program Overview

The on-campus undergraduate Elementary Education program prepares you not only to teach academic areas of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts and reading, fine arts, physical education, and literature, but also to nurture your pupils’ intellectual, social, emotional, and cultural development. When you become an elementary teacher, you have the opportunity to shape future generations. Our professors will show you how to use the latest educational technology for teaching children, such as iPad integration and interactive whiteboards. Our program is also nationally recognized by the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and follows the guidelines of the South Carolina State Department of Education.

Elementary Education students complete coursework in educational pedagogy, literacy, content methods, and embedded clinicals in addition to their core classes. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

Along with your degree, you’ll be equipped to earn your teaching certification for the state of South Carolina for 2nd through 6th grade. Your certification will be recognized in many other states, so you can also teach elsewhere or explore additional career opportunities. Some of our grads have gone on to work in agencies that specialize in child development, education advocacy, or ministry. Our professors receive calls every semester from school administrators who want to hire Anderson University graduates because they are known for their professionalism, competence, and desire to shape South Carolina’s elementary schoolchildren.
