Bachelor of Science (BS), Cybersecurity and Mathematics

Program Overview

In the Cybersecurity and Mathematics program, You’ll explore the logical relationship between cybersecurity and mathematics as you learn cryptography, discrete math, statistics, linear programming, network security, ethical hacking, cloud security, and more. Your expertise in these areas will help you keep critical data—from financial institutions to hospitals to the government—secure. You’ll also learn technology and tools that are in demand in the marketplace, including Kali Linux, Wireshark, the Nmap security scanner, and the Python computer language. You’ll be prepared to earn professional certifications after graduation, including Security+ and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

As a Cybersecurity and Mathematics major, You’ll learn to spot data that doesn’t fit and identify indicators of cybersecurity compromises. You’ll be a problem solver who can use mathematical skills to solve challenging cybersecurity problems. You’ll also learn technology and tools that are in demand in the marketplace. You’ll receive a comprehensive cybersecurity education, balanced between the technical side and risk management, which includes making sure computer systems are in compliance with the law. You’ll take valuable classes covering critical topics such as cloud security, cyber threat intelligence, disaster preparedness, digital forensics, and ethical hacking.

This relevant, interdisciplinary major prepares students to work in both government agencies and private companies that depend on mathematics. Graduates with backgrounds in both cyber and math can work on interdisciplinary teams to help formulate complex mathematical and cryptographic solutions to today’s cybersecurity problems.

Graduates can work in any industry that hires cybersecurity professionals, especially those in data-intensive sectors, such as finance, insurance, healthcare, software development, intelligence, and military/defense. The major also prepares students for careers in cybersecurity consulting and auditing, as well as graduate work in Cybersecurity or Mathematics.

No previous degree is required to enroll in this program.

Two essays (prompts) or official SAT, ACT, or CLT scores are required during the application process.
Anderson University has a rolling admission process (students are notified when the are accepted whenever that is during the year) but students are encouraged to apply by the following dates: December 1st for the best scholarship consideration and no later than July 1st to begin in the fall semester.
