Introducing the Undergraduate Degree in International Diplomacy and International Relations

The Undergraduate Degree in International Diplomacy and International Relations

This undergraduate degree in International Diplomacy and International Relations is designed to provide students a program that integrates ethical principles across all areas of global relations and diplomacy.

The curriculum is designed to produce graduates who are not only skilled in the field of international diplomacy, but also ethical leaders capable of addressing global challenges with integrity, fairness and transparency. The program offers a unique blend of diplomatic studies, language proficiency and an emphasis on ethics, making it a trailblazer in diplomatic education.

At the heart of global affairs lies diplomacy—the art and science of managing international relations and promoting peaceful resolutions to conflict. In today’s complex and interconnected world, diplomacy must be guided by strategic thinking and a strong ethical foundation. This is where the new major stands apart. This pioneering program offers students a transformative education that integrates ethics with international relations and diplomatic studies in a way that no other program has done.

In this program, students will explore how ethical reasoning applies to diplomacy, global governance and foreign policy. Grounded in the University’s mission, this degree emphasizes the importance of ethical leadership in all aspects of international relations and diplomacy, whether addressing conflict resolution, international law, human rights or economic relations. Graduates of this program will be equipped with the skills to navigate complex global issues and a profound sense of responsibility, ensuring that their recommendations and actions contribute to a just and peaceful world.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Ethics in International Relations

By drawing from philosophy, theology, political science, law, economics and cultural studies, students will explore different schools of ethical thought and their application to international diplomacy. Core courses will include topics such as Public Diplomacy and Ethical Governance, Ethical Security and Transparency, and Cultural Diplomacy and Ethics, all designed to prepare future diplomats to lead with integrity and moral clarity.

The program will also place special emphasis on the intersection of Christian ethical principles with contemporary diplomatic practices. Students will engage with historical and modern debates on topics such as humanitarian intervention, environmental diplomacy, and cybersecurity, all from an ethical perspective informed by faith and reason. The degree will encourage students to think beyond immediate political goals and instead focus on long-term ethical consequences, guided by the virtuous ideals of justice, stewardship and compassion.
