Zac Benson, assistant professor of art in the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, opened an exhibition of his art January 31, 2022. A reception is planned for Tuesday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Vandiver Gallery of the Thrift Library at Anderson University.

This past year, Benson has been researching and developing his new art installation funded by an FDC Summer Professional Development Grant he received. It’s titled “Presence.”

The idea behind this exhibit, Benson says, came from imagining the presence of the Holy Spirit—what would that physically feel like? Benson’s work is more of an art installation that provides its audience an immersive experience engaging the senses of feeling and hearing the spirit wind.

Benson’s work has appeared in galleries throughout the United States and overseas. His work portrays Benson’s personal faith and beliefs and his engagement with society while his public sculptures deal with the traditional relationship of scale and form.

Benson graduated with his B.F.A. in sculpture from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2011 and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from The University of Maryland in 2017. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Studio Art at Anderson University where he teaches sculpture and ceramics.

Benson’s work can be seen on his website.
