Bachelor of Science (BS), Biology Education with Add-On Certification in Broad Science

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Biology Education program will give you the skills to teach and guide a diverse student population. As an educator, you must be prepared to mentor and develop students to better understand their world. In this program, you’ll study biology, chemistry, physical, and earth science. You’ll be prepared to guide students who pursue higher education, as well as those entering the workforce after high school. Our close connections with private and public schools will help you network with educators and open a path for you to step into any classroom.

In the Biology Education program, you will complete coursework in both your area of study and in educational pedagogy. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

In addition to obtaining your degree, you’ll be equipped to earn your secondary biology (9-12) teaching certification for the state of South Carolina. You can also use this certification to teach 7th or 8th grade (per current state regulations). Certified secondary science educators are in high demand, so you will have a variety of teaching opportunities. Our graduates are actively sought out by school administrators because they are known for their professionalism, competence, and desire to shape South Carolina’s high school students. Some of our graduates have explored careers beyond teaching, such as working in agencies that specialize in child development, education advocacy, or ministry.
