Master of Ministry (M.Min)

Program Overview

The Master of Ministry degree instills leadership while providing a great foundational understanding of ministry. This degree is designed for those who have recently felt the call to the ministry, those already involved in the ministry who never received an advanced degree, and lay leaders who want to increase their effectiveness. It is intentionally broad, with a mix of biblical studies, theology, and practical preparation. Your professors are both academically trained and experienced practitioners. This 36-credit hour online program allows you to continue your education while managing all of your other responsibilities.

Ministry is constantly changing. This program will prepare you for new positions in media ministry, family ministry, creative arts ministry, youth ministry, and so much more. We want you to come out of this program prepared to adapt and effectively do ministry in a variety of settings.

Admission Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required to enroll in this program.
Official undergraduate transcripts from a regionally accredited institution are required during the application is required during the application process for this program (a GRE may be required if the undergraduate degree is not from a regionally accredited university). If graduate work has been completed, submit official graduate transcripts as well.
  • A short essay that explains your motivation for applying and how obtaining this M.Min. degree will impact your ministry.
  • Three letters of recommendation. One of these letters must be from the pastor/minister of the local church you are currently attending. If you are the pastor, the letter may come from another church leader.
The application deadline is two (2) weeks before a term start date.

Why AU?

Every class includes a foundational component and a practical component. For example, Biblical Hermeneutics and Exegesis teaches both the history of the formation of the biblical canon and how to interpret the Bible for teaching. Communication for Ministry examines rhetorical theory and includes advice about interpersonal communication, communicating via electronic media, and marketing for ministry. Some of the other courses are:

  • Old Testament Survey
  • New Testament Survey
  • Church History

The program includes a capstone project in which you’ll identify a ministry problem or opportunity and develop a sustainable solution. The goal is to help you become a self-directed, self-motivated Christian leader.
