College of Education

Bachelor of Science (BS), Secondary Math Education (9-12)

Program Overview

The Secondary Math Education program will not only provide you with knowledge on mathematical principles, but you’ll also learn how to create engaging lessons to inspire students in all the math disciplines. In this program, you’ll be prepared to teach courses such as geometry, algebra, calculus and probability, and statistics in a high school setting. Our dual focus thoroughly teaches you the content as well as how to teach that content. You’ll develop critical thinking skills and training in how to apply mathematical principles and theories to practical world problems, like understanding the volatility of the stock market.

In the Secondary Mathematics Education program, you will complete coursework in both your area of study and in educational pedagogy. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

Your Secondary Math Education degree from Anderson University prepares you to become a certified educator. Educators are in high demand across the country and a South Carolina certification is reciprocal in 47 states, creating an open path for you to step into any classroom. The median salary for a high school teacher is $61,820, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many graduates choose to pursue a master’s degree to advance their earning potential in education or to pursue other careers.
