College of Education

Bachelor of Science (BS), Secondary Math Education (9-12)

Program Overview

The Secondary Math Education program will not only provide you with knowledge on mathematical principles, but you’ll also learn how to create engaging lessons to inspire students in all the math disciplines. In this program, you’ll be prepared to teach courses such as geometry, algebra, calculus and probability, and statistics in a high school setting. You’ll develop critical thinking skills and learn how to apply mathematical principles and theories to practical world problems, like understanding the volatility of the stock market.

Our dual focus program not only teaches you the content, but also hot to teach that content to your students. In our Best Practices I & II courses you learn best teaching practices, while the math curriculum focuses on developing core concepts and structures in mathematics. In addition to your mathematics courses, your studies will include two literacy courses related to the Read to Succeed endorsement.

In the Secondary Mathematics Education program, you will complete coursework in both your area of study and in educational pedagogy. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

The program also prepares you to meet the professional licensure requirements for your teacher certification which is reciprocal in most states. Upon graduation from the Secondary Math Education program, you’ll be prepared to pursue graduate programs that can help increase your earning potential upon graduation. Here at Anderson University we have numerous Masters and Doctoral level education programs available.
