College of Arts and Sciences

Bachelor of Science (BS), Mathematics: Pure Mathematics

Program Overview

The Mathematics: Pure Mathematics concentration provides you with both the theoretical and practical experiences necessary to understand life mathematically. The degree culminates in an individual research project geared toward your interests under the direct supervision of a faculty member. Some of our students’ works have been published in peer-reviewed mathematical journals. Our rigorous coursework takes place in small class sizes. You will study algebra, analysis, and statistics, and gain the necessary skills to apply mathematical reasoning and techniques to solve real-world problems related to engineering, finance, and economics. These courses will prepare you for graduate study in mathematics, statistics, environmental engineering, and data analytics. The Pure Mathematics concentration at Anderson University empowers you to engage, explain, and employ cutting-edge technologies in an ever-changing economy.

In the Pure Mathematics major, you’ll learn the core concepts and structures of mathematics. You’ll not only learn the rich theories of pure mathematics, but also how to apply mathematical principles to practical world problems. You can use the concepts you’ll study to explain the rate at which a virus spreads in a community or the volatility of the stock market.
