FAQs

SGA exists to encourage and develop student interests through student body representation, club and organization support, and servant leadership. We achieve this mission by providing funding to student clubs and organizations, supporting campus improvements, and collaborating with University leadership regarding student concerns and feedback.

SGA hosts elections for our 32 Senate seats within a few weeks of the beginning of the Fall semester. SGA may host special Senate Elections throughout the year as needed to fill vacant seats.

SGA hosts elections for our 4 Elected Officials (President, Vice-President, Executive Director of Operations, and Treasurer) in March. Previous positions are filled through an application and interview process, and are open to the student body.

SGA conducts hiring of our Director and Secretary positions in March and April, immediately following Spring elections. These positions are filled through an application and interview process, and are open to the student body.

SGA’s funding comes from a $50 student fee that is allocated per semester. The Executive and Legislative branches work together to allocate our budget responsibly and with the best interests of our students in mind.

Any chartered student club or organization or University department is eligible to receive funding from SGA. Organizations can submit a funding request through a form on SGA’s AUnited page. SGA’s Finance Bylaws provide an overview of the funding process and funding restrictions and limitations.

There is an application under Organizations on AUnited that says “Register a New Organization.” Once you fill out all the necessary information, Student Involvement will request a meeting with you. After that meeting, SGA will extend an invitation to attend a Senate meeting to hear your provisional application. SGA will vote on the provisional club and then send it to University Administration for final approval. From there, a club remains provisional for one academic year and then can represent for their Official Club Charter.
