A new Choir and Vocal Camp, taking place July 9-14 at Anderson University, will prepare students to take the next steps in their musical journey.
Students will work directly with primary AU voice and choral faculty and enjoy making music with others who love singing. They will develop skills and knowledge in individual and ensemble singing, vocal technique, musicianship, vocal health and audition skills.
According to Dr. Richard Williamson, director of choral activities and professor of music, theory and composition, the camp will be the right size for more individualized instruction. Dr. Williamson asked students planning to attend the camp about what they want to learn, and they indicated they wanted. A couple of examples are to learn breath control and to be confident in their performances. He adds that camp participants will learn in detail how the voice works and the proper posture for singing.
Along with that, the camp will offer small ensemble rehearsals offering more of an intimate chamber choir setting than a large festival atmosphere.
The camp is for rising ninth-through-12th graders and will take place at the Rainey Fine Arts Center of the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University.
The cost is $495 for residential students (includes cost of instruction, housing, meals and activities), $350 for commuting students (includes cost of instruction, lunch and activities.). A $100 discount is available for All-State Chorus and ACDS Honor Choir members.
Registration Deadline is June 12. Registration is available online at this link. For details, contact Dr. Richard Williamson rwilliamson@andersonuniversity.edu.
