It’s the biggest question on most folks’ minds these days: Tampa Bay or Kansas City? Brady or Mahomes? Arians or Reid?

Here’s another question to consider: What are you doing to keep yourself healthy and safe while watching the Super Bowl?

The fact is, attending large gatherings to watch the Super Bowl is risky. The Centers for Disease Control this week issued guidelines for best practices ahead of this Sunday’s game. They include hosting virtual Super Bowl watch parties or attending an outdoor viewing party where you can maintain six-foot physical distancing.

If neither of those options are available, the best way to safely watch the Super Bowl with friends is by following the established Journey Ahead protocols. You probably (hopefully) know them by heart:

  • Wear a mask or face covering
  • Maintain six-foot physical distance from others
  • Practice good hand hygiene
  • Do not attend any gathering if you have symptoms–even if you think it’s just allergies or a cold

Here’s some last food for thought: Anderson University experienced its two highest spikes in COVID-19 infections last fall immediately following the Labor Day holiday and the start of the football season. It’s likely that public gatherings where protocols were not strictly followed were the culprits.

Let’s break that trend. Enjoy the game, but be sure you are doing so responsibly and with the goal of caring for each other above all else.
