It’s been four years since club sports were first stewarded into Anderson by SGA, and they’ve been quietly expanding. Anderson’s club disc golf team, which was the one of the first club sports to begin under SGA’s supervision, won their first college disc golf tournament October 18 in Kentucky at the Bluegrass Regional National Qualifier.
Anderson’s team beat 15 other universities, half of which were SEC, ACC, and Big Ten competitors. Included were teams from the Universities of Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech and Ohio State.
The AU team won by nine strokes, shooting a school-record 39 under par through three rounds. By winning the tournament, the team has secured its Division II bid in the Collegiate National Championships, which will be hosted in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
