Anderson University is joining colleges and universities across the world in celebrating International Education Week, November 18-22. The Anderson University Center for Global Engagement, International Student Organization and Connect Club are partnering to host events to throughout the week.

International Education Week is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education that encourages individuals and institutions to promote international education and exchange programs.

“International Education Week (IEW) gives our campus time to celebrate programs that support a wide range of cultural events as well as to promote global education,” said Ann Themistocleous, director of the Anderson University Center for Global Engagement. “The events planned during the week are designed so that Anderson students can learn more about other cultures and support diversity. From learning about the large number of study abroad programs AU has available, to assistance with applying for a passport, international education week has it all.”

AU’s International Education Week includes Curriculum Enhancement Program (CEP) events, a presentation on financial aid and scholarships for study abroad, an international photo contest, an open house at the Center for Global Engagement, a mini study abroad fair and assistance applying for a passport. The dining commons will serve international dishes throughout the week to highlight countries including France, Israel, South Korea, Ethiopia and the Dominican Republic.

“We are all very excited about this,” said Fanny Karlsson, a junior accounting major and member of the women’s soccer team who is from Sweden and serves as the vice president of the International Students Organization. “I believe the international education gives AU students the opportunity to see the world. Whether it is meeting the internationals at school, or going abroad themselves, they will see there is so much more than they know. There is so much to learn and to see, cultures to experience, and people to meet.”

Additionally, AU’s International Education Week will include four CEP events: “Re-entry and Reflection: Study Abroad Poland” on November 18 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Banquet Hall B; “Re-entry and Reflection: Study Abroad Italy” on November 19 at 6 p.m. in Hunt Chapel; “Re-entry and Reflection: Study Abroad England” on November 20 at 6 p.m. in Student Center Banquet Hall C; and “Study Abroad Spain” on November 21 at 6 p.m. in Watkins 100.
