Academic Background
After a twenty-six plus year career at Bosch (half as an executive), Matt Ball retired and joined the faculty at Anderson University’s College of Business. He teaches courses in Supply Chain Management. He literally stepped out of the Global Supply Chain and into the Supply Chain Classroom. His passion is to bring the real world “nuts and bolts” of Supply Chain management and merge it with the theory of SCM. His students quickly come to the realization that “Business problems are messy!” and “Logic, data and reason” help clean-up the mess!

Fast Facts
First and foremost, it is an honor and a privilege to serve at Anderson University. Our faculty are AMAZING! In the College of Business, we have many former executive and C-Suite Leaders with real world experience. We enjoy academic freedom, where our faith is a part of our focus serving and preparing our students for success in a secular world. Our students are curious, creative, and chose AU for the unique academic experience they receive here. While I am here to teach, I learn something new every day! I couldn’t imagine teaching anywhere else.
Nearly 25% of new jobs in South Carolina are in Supply Chain, Logistics or related businesses. This is due to the Port of Charleston, and the many international businesses in the state. There is never a typical day in Supply Chain Management. It’s all about relationships, problem solving, and applying logic, data, and reason to complex and messy business problems. If you like people, problem solving and making the world smaller and less complex, you will love a career in Supply Chain Management! The links are people!
Most recently I spoke on the topic of Inflation and the Supply Chain, at the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants Fall Fest conference in Columbia in 2022. I have spoken at both the Institute of Industrial Engineers International Conference and the American Society for Quality’s World Conference along with regional meetings with APICS, IIE, and ASQ. However, I am most proud of the 30 plus Leaders, Managers, and Executives who started out working for me early in their careers and progressed to very high levels all over the US. The role of every leader is to cultivate great leaders better than their mentor.
I most enjoy the interaction with the future: our students. Watching and helping them learn, grow and confidently find their place in this world is a great responsibility and privilege.
