May 2021 Commencement

The Trojan Family eagerly awaits its opportunity to honor your accomplishments with commencement exercises on Alumni Lawn, May 7 and 8, 2021. We look forward to celebrating this memorable occasion with you, your family, and our guests.

 

Information For Both Ceremonies
 

Commencement Website: Information regarding Commencement will be regularly updated on our Anderson University Commencement page. Please check this page regularly for important updates.

Video Streaming: For the convenience of family and friends who are unable to attend Commencement, we are pleased to provide a live video streaming option on our Commencement page. Please check this page for the link that will be published when it becomes available.

Required Dress: Commencement participants must be dressed appropriately in attire suitable for formal church services or professional engagements. No jeans, shorts, or casual footwear (i.e. flip-flops, athletic shoes, etc.) are permitted. Avoid high heels and slick-soled shoes to limit the chance of slips or falls. 

Photography: A professional photographer with ProPics will take individual photos of each graduate at Commencement. Please visit www.AUphotos.com for information.

Diploma Distribution: Graduates will receive empty diploma covers during the ceremony. Because the timing of the ceremony and exams, the diplomas will not be available on the day of the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed by June 4, 2021, and you will receive an email with a tracking number once your diploma has been mailed.

 


 

Details specific to the Graduate Ceremony, Friday, May 7
 

1. Date, Time, & Location:
Graduate Commencement is Friday, May 7, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. on Alumni Lawn (the front lawn of Anderson University).

2. Guest limitations, audience capacity, & ticketing Information:
Chairs for families and guests will be arranged in groups of six (6.) Because there are fewer students participating in Friday’s ceremony, there are no limitations on the number of guests.

3. Rain Plan: Because audio visual equipment is used during the ceremony, inclement weather may require us to change the location and nature of the event. A rain plan decision will be made by Wednesday, May 5, at 5 p.m.

Our rain plan will require the following adjustments:

  • Online: Commencement will be live streamed online
  • Guests: Guests may attend the ceremony in person
  • Attendance: Students and their invited guests
  • Venue: Henderson Auditorium in the Rainey Fine Arts Center

4. Student Check-In Instructions: Check-In will open at at 4:00 p.m. You will need to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. at Henderson Auditorium in the Rainey Fine Arts Center.

  1. It is imperative that you are present for the roll call of names to ensure you are marked present for the Commencement ceremony.
  2. The Processional will begin in Henderson and will travel down the sidewalk on Kingsley, in front of campus, through the Anderson University Arch, up the front walk, and into seating on the front lawn.
  3. These activities involve substantial walking on sidewalks, soft grass, and up and down steps. Please wear comfortable, safe shoes.
  4. If you require special accommodations for participation in the Processional or ceremony, please notify the Office of the Registrar at (864) 231-2120 or registrar@andersonuniversity.edu as soon as possible to discuss how we can best accommodate your needs.

5. Guest Instructions:
Seating on Alumni Lawn will be open for Friday’s ceremony beginning at 5:00 p.m. As mentioned above, seating is arranged in groups of six (6.) Refer to the red stars on the adjacent campus map for guest information stations.

 



Details specific to the Undergraduate Ceremony, Saturday, May 8

 

1. Date, Time, & Location:
Undergraduate Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. on Alumni Lawn (the front lawn of Anderson University).

2. Guest limitations, audience capacity, & ticketing Information:
Because of the number of students participating and current COVID restrictions, we have specific requirements for Saturday’s ceremony:

To ensure physical distance can be maintained for all participants, each graduate will be allowed a maximum of six (6) guests. Printed tickets will not be distributed to graduates for this event. Guests of each graduate (maximum of six (6) per graduate) will be required to participate in a check-in process to be admitted into Alumni Lawn.

3. Rain Plan: Because audio visual equipment is used during the ceremony, inclement weather may require us to change the location and nature of the event. A rain plan decision will be made by Wednesday, May 5, at 5 p.m.

Our rain plan will require the following adjustments:

  • Online: Commencement will be live streamed online
  • Guests: Because of indoor space limitations, each graduate may have four (4) total guests. Two (2) may attend the ceremony inside the auditorium. Two (2) additional guests will view a livestream of the ceremony in a separate overflow facility. 
  • Attendance: Students and their four (4) invited guests. 
  • Venue: NewSpring Church, 2940 Concord Rd, Anderson, SC 29621

4. Student Check-In Instructions: Check-In begins at 7:00 a.m. You will need to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. The location will be determined and updated once we have final participation counts. Please pay careful attention to your AU email and the commencement website for updates.

Check-In for Saturday’s ceremony will begin at 8:00 a.m. There will be two check-in locations for guests. Refer to the red stars on the above campus map for these locations.

At each Check-In location, guests will verify their graduate’s name and receive:

  • An armband to allow access to Alumni Lawn
  • Information about seating and family pods

NOTE: Because of public health guidelines and Journey Ahead protocols, each pod is designated for a specific graduate’s family or guests and cannot be combined or mixed.
