Job Opportunities

Assistant/Associate Professor – Practical Theology

The College of Christian Studies and Clamp Divinity School at Anderson University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month position in Practical Theology with a start date of August 2026. An earned doctorate in a Practical Ministry field is required. Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Have experience teaching in higher education.
  • Have experience in pastoral ministry.
  • Have a track record of scholarship (or clear potential for scholarly contributions).

Screening will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Faculty rank and status will be determined at the time of appointment based upon the degrees, experience, and record of scholarship.

The successful candidate will be teaching in several practical ministry areas, including leadership and church administration, pastoral care and counseling, evangelism and church health, and church planting and revitalization. This is a residential faculty position which will teach both seated and online classes. By policy, all full-time faculty in the College of Christian Studies must be active participants in a Baptist Church or a church in the Baptist tradition.

The College of Christian Studies (CCS) at AU was created in May 2009 by uniting Anderson University’s outstanding undergraduate ministry programs with the Clamp Divinity School, which offers the Master of Ministry, Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies, Master of Divinity, Doctor of Ministry in 21st Century Ministry, and PhD in Preaching. The CCS at Anderson University is a theologically conservative, evangelical community of faith and learning, which is rooted in and committed to seven core values: Solidly Biblical, Christ-Centered, Excellence-Driven, Student-Focused, Intensely Practical, Church-Invested, and Mission-Mobilized. For more information on the Clamp Divinity School, see clampdivinity.com.

AU faculty maintain a teaching load of 24 credit hours per academic year, supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects, advise, and serve the university in other capacities as needed (e.g. committee work or sponsoring student organizations). There are additional opportunities for teaching in summer terms.

The largest private university in South Carolina, Anderson University is an innovative and entrepreneurial comprehensive, liberal arts Christian university. AU is one of just a handful of universities in the world to be a recipient of Apple’s Distinguished School recognition five times. In addition to being named as one of the best Southeastern Colleges by the Princeton Review, AU was ranked by U.S News & World Report as the #2 Regional College in the South with a Strong Commitment to Teaching. We are located in South Carolina’s Upstate region, a growing and thriving community with award-winning public schools and convenient access to major cities and year-round outdoor recreation. Affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, AU seeks to attract culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber, active in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of faith.

Your digital application should include a cover letter addressing how your teaching would align with Anderson University’s mission: https://www.andersonuniversity.edu/about-au/mission-vision-values-statement. In addition, you should include a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy highlighting your goals, accomplishments and future plans, unofficial copies of relevant graduate coursework, and an AU faculty application.
