Dr. April Reese is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Program Coordinator of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program in graduate nursing. She loves nursing, women’s health, and mental health. She received her DNP at the Medical College of Georgia. Her work concentrated on postpartum mood and anxiety disorders. She maintains part-time practice in a multi-discipline office in which she is the only mental health provider. She resides in southwest Georgia with her husband, 2 dogs, a cat and a lovebird. She has 4 adult children.

My classes are asynchronous hybrid for the nursing professional seeking to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Videos and readings prepare students to enter into discussion boards which often are case studies. Students provide interesting, relevant, evidence-based feedback while responding to their peers. Clinical courses with preceptor guidance provide real life experiences to prepare the student/graduate for independent practice as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.
I love being a nurse, midwife, and psychiatric nurse practitioner. I love our Lord and Saviour. I love teaching graduate nursing and teaching at AU. The University provides excellent education while being supportive of its students, faculty and staff, and honoring its Christain values.
As a nurse and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner caring for people at their worst times often, you have to love and want to care for people. The career is so rewarding but hard at times. The love of nursing and of people make the difficult times small compared to the rewards.
