College of Education

Bachelor of Science (BS), Elementary Education with add-on certification in Early Childhood Education

Program Overview

The on-campus undergraduate Elementary Education program will help expand your knowledge and develop the skills to energize young minds. This track includes an add-on certification in Early Childhood Education and will equip you to teach at any level, from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. You’ll study teaching theories and methods while also gaining an understanding of these students’ learning characteristics.

Elementary Education students complete coursework in educational pedagogy, literacy, content methods, and embedded clinicals in addition to core classes. If you are seeking the Early Childhood add-on, you will take several courses specifically designed to support your development as an aspiring early educator. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

Graduates can seek certification to teach in public or private school classrooms. While the vast majority become teachers, some grads head to the mission field, working inside and outside of the classroom. Others work with education-focused nonprofits.

Why AU?
Anderson University’s College of Education has strong partnerships with local school districts, both public and private. These partnerships allow students to learn through embedded clinical experiences and spend time with students in classrooms throughout their time at AU. Dozens of school districts visit AU’s campus for our annual networking event to interview our teacher candidates. Many students end the day with job offers or opportunities to pursue from multiple districts. Our students are strongly positioned to enter the workforce because both their skills and character are in high demand.
