On November 13, she will visit campus to discuss her work in a public lecture in the Daniel Recital Hall at 7 p.m. followed by a reception in the Vandiver Gallery.
Millman’s exhibit will run through December 13. In addition, she will work as a guest artist on campus with upper-level art and design students. She will conduct a two-day Visual Storytelling workshop for them on November 13 and 14, giving AU art students a rare opportunity to work with one of the industry’s leading artists.
Millman draws no distinction between life and work, career and calling. Her visual essays have been exhibited at the Chicago Design Museum and have graced the pages of Print magazine.
Since 2005, Millman’s radio show Design Matters has been a beacon of creative culture through conversations with luminaries such as Malcolm Gladwell, Milton Glaser, Lawrence Weiner, Neville Brody, Maira Kalman, and dozens more. In 2011, the show received the prestigious Cooper Hewitt National Design Award.
A native New Yorker, Millman is the author of five books including, Look Both Ways, Brand Thinking and Other Noble Pursuits and How to Think Like a Great Graphic Designer. She serves as President Emeritus of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
Millman co-founded and chairs the Master of Professional Studies in Branding program at the School of Visual Arts and has worked with some of the world’s most prominent brands as president of the design division at Sterling Brands. Millman has been pushing the limits of the possible in branding, design, and the communication arts for nearly two decades.
The Vandiver Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and on Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed during University breaks and holidays, except by appointment.
