The Alpha Alpha Pi chapter of Sigma, International Honor Society for Nurses, inducted new members recently.
Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society in Nursing was founded to support this field of healthcare in the scope of love, courage and honor. The society acknowledges these are the roots of the nursing profession and the foundational concepts upon which the art and science of nursing evolves.
Sigma members are passionate clinicians, researchers, academicians and professional nurses who are dedicated to making a difference in global health. The mission of Sigma is to assure that the field develops nurses as leaders anywhere to improve healthcare everywhere.
“We were very excited to hold our first live induction ceremony on February 17, 2022. It was a lovely ceremony celebrating our nursing students’ achievements,” said Kimberly Speer, chapter president. “Having a Sigma chapter here on campus helps make Anderson University students a part of a larger global nursing society that advocates for the advancement of the nursing profession.”
Sigma also provides a platform for faculty and students to be involved in volunteer work, continuing education and research programs. Sigma also provides scholarship opportunities for nurses with all levels of education. Sigma fosters leadership programs for those interested in nursing leadership. The chapter held its chartering ceremony April 11, 2021.
