The Anderson University Center for Cybersecurity creates opportunities for students to go beyond the classroom to promote both cybersecurity safety and Anderson University to nearby communities. They speak with middle and high students about cybersecurity safety and degrees available from the Anderson University Center for Cybersecurity.
On October 23, Cybersecurity Professor Karry Elson, along with Cybersecurity students Thomas Cain and Branson Bailey, teamed up for a presentation to students at Landrum Middle School in Landrum, South Carolina. Educating youth about pitfalls in technology and what to do if something negative happens to them is a community service that helps not only middle school students, but also the AU Cybersecurity students. In addition, they gave a couple of demonstrations as to how hackers may steal users’ information.
According to Professor Elson, this is the second year they’ve visited Landrum Middle School, adding that they hope to continue visiting every year.
“The feedback from the teachers and principals after the events was very positive and we look forward to finding other opportunities in local communities to spread good cybersecurity practices, as well as promoting AU to prospective students,” Professor Elson said.
The AU Center for Cybersecurity
The Anderson University Center for Cybersecurity trains students to meet the unique demands of today’s cybersecurity industry.
