The South Carolina School of the Arts, at Anderson University, is giving 19 high school students the chance to hone their theatre skills and earn college credit with “AU Rep,” a summer repertory theatre experience intended to provide high school actors with a chance to be a part of repertory theatre. In addition, the greater Anderson area will have a chance to see the result of their work over four nights from June 28 – July 1. 
The young actors will work intensively on two plays, Two Gentlemen of Verona and Treasure Island that will run on alternate days from June 28 to July 1 in what’s known as a “rolling rep.” Dr. David Larson, Dean of the South Carolina School of the Arts calls it a “boot camp” for young actors. AU Rep is intensive and very exciting. According to Larson, the beauty is that the audience can come on two successive nights and see the same performers in two entirely different plays. Come see the best high school actors in the region. Under the direction of Associate Professor of Theatre Robert Homer-Drummond, the AU Repertory Theatre is celebrating its fifth year.
Homer-Drummond is assisted by six AU theatre students serving as designers and directors. In fact, each of the two plays is being directed by AU senior theatre students; Treasure Island is being directed by Jessica Trementozi, and Two Gentlemen of Verona is being directed by Drew Kenyon. According to Homer-Drummond, “the mix of high school actors, supported by AU student technicians and directors makes the AU Rep truly unique; it makes for great theatrical mentoring.” Set designer, Steven Hernandez, a rising sophomore at Anderson, says that interacting with the kids is his favorite part of the experience.
