The International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) awarded its prestigious Lifetime Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credential to Dr. Howard Murphy on October 13, 2022.

Dr. Murphy is the coordinator of the Homeland Security and Emergency Services program and associate professor in the Anderson University School of Public Service and Administration.

The Lifetime CEM is an honor awarded by the CEM Commission to individuals who have been previously awarded the CEM credential and who have provided significant contributions over long careers as emergency managers. The IAEM will present this honor to Dr. Murphy during IAEM’s Annual Conference next month in Savannah, Georgia.

The IAEM is the only organization that offers a certification for individual emergency managers. The Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation is a nationally and internationally recognized professional certification for emergency managers and is considered the pinnacle credential in the emergency management profession. Individuals obtaining the certification must recertify at five-year intervals by submitting documentation that demonstrates substantial continuing education in Emergency Management and General Management topics as well as professional contributions. Dr. Murphy received his initial CEM credential in 1998 and has maintained the credential for 24 years.
