Five Anderson University graduate family nurse practitioner students were awarded a significant scholarship funded by the CVS Foundation.

The CVS Foundation chose Anderson University as a qualified school to receive a scholarship grant to equally distribute to five students. Graduate nursing students Irina Shatanko, Kynni Jones, Heather Shaw, Ashley Buchanan and Brianna Hodges were recipients of the $1000 scholarship.

“Funds are distributed directly to qualified schools; scholarships are awarded to students through the institution’s internal scholarship process,” said Dr. Carol Archuleta, Dean of the Anderson University School of Nursing. “Anderson University’s School of Nursing has achieved full accreditation status by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and, with this achievement, is eligible to partner with CVS in this scholarship process. I am so very proud of these scholarship recipients.”

Dr. Beth Snyder, a professor of graduate nursing, said students were chosen based on the foundation’s criteria, including identifying students’ financial needs as well as their ability to speak more than one language along with a desire to work in medically underserved communities as a family nurse practitioner.

The CVS Foundation’s scholarship seeks to mitigate the ongoing primary care physician shortage in the United States. This is the second consecutive academic year that Anderson University has received the scholarship.

“CVS provides support to promising family nurse practitioners and physician assistants of tomorrow by providing scholarships through the CVS Health Foundation to accredited Colleges of Nursing and Physician Assistants schools across the country,” said Dr. Donald Peace, Dean of the College of Health Professions. “We treasure the relationship that has developed over the past few years. They have provided employment for recent AU grads within their network of Minute Clinic facilities.”
