Dr. Kyle Small is the new director of the Anderson University Center for Leadership and Organizations.

Dr. Small comes to Anderson University with extensive experience in higher education and pastoral ministry, most recently at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Mich., where he has served as professor of church leadership, dean of formation for ministry and student services and associate academic dean. He is an ordained pastor, originally in the Evangelical Covenant Church and currently in the Reformed Church in America.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Small to our academic leadership team and faculty,” said President Evans P. Whitaker, Ph.D. “His experience and credentials are a perfect fit for leading our Ph.D. Program in leadership that promises to contribute significant new knowledge to leadership and organizational science literature, and strengthen individuals for leadership of 21st century organizations.”

Dr. Small’s teaching and research focus on organizational cultures in America, spiritual formation and the practice of leadership and theological education. A native of Omaha, Neb., Dr. Small completed his undergraduate degree at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D.; his M.Div. degree at North Park Seminary in Chicago; and his Ph.D. at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He and his wife, Lindsay, have three children.

“It seems good and right that the graduate edge of a Christian liberal arts school is an interdisciplinary center and degree program focused on forming leaders in faith and enlivening organizations for the common good,” said Dr. Small, who also serves the program as professor of leadership. “I hope the work of the Center makes an impact not only on business, government and ministry leaders across the Upstate and around the country but also on the AU campus with students, faculty and staff.”

The Anderson University Center for Leadership and Organizations houses the university’s Ph.D. in Leadership program, which offers concentrations in Business and Christian Ministry.
