On Friday, October 18, the Annual Alumni & Friends Trojan Challenge 5K Run/Walk will take place at Anderson’ University’s Athletic Campus (formerly the Anderson County Fairgrounds) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Enactus, a community service-minded business team of Anderson University students, is organizing the event, which features an out-and-back, mostly flat course down the historic Boulevard past AU’s main campus. Participants may compete to receive Top Open and Masters Runners trophies, as well as awards for the top two male and female runners in each age group. Age groups are as follows: 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65 and over.

“This race is about empowerment,” says Jennifer Price, a senior human resources major and the team president. “Every dollar raised by the race goes straight back into the community—empowering women, hungry families, struggling small businesses, and students who are wanting to find a way to serve others using their gifts.”

“By running this 5K,” Price says, “we will see people not only personally empowered, but also community-focused, giving their time and resources to further a greater cause.”

The event is sponsored by Cross Country Home Services, BB&T, the YMCA, and other local businesses. A Trojan Challenge T-shirt will be given to the first 100 runners and walkers, and refreshments will be provided for all participants. Both Holiday Inn on Clemson Boulevard and Microtel Inn and Suites on the Electric City Boulevard have offered a special AU rate for this event for those visiting from out of town.

Registration costs are $20. All proceeds will benefit the Anderson University Enactus team and its community-empowerment projects. The Anderson University Enactus team will accept monetary donations on the night of the race.

Participants may register online at www.strictlyrunning.com or starting at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the race. For further details, please contact Chad Nelms at cnelms@andersonuniveristy.edu.
