Nursing students in the Anderson University College of Health Professions are among a select group. The School of Nursing is one of few institutions in the state that achieved a passing rate of 90 percent or higher in one or more of the following programs: Associate Degree in Registered Nursing, Baccalaureate in Registered Nursing, and Practical Nursing.

“Our pass rate for calendar year 2022 was 92.42 percent. The state of South Carolina administered 2,734 RN exam applications (first-time takers), up 8.2 percent from last year, with a pass rate of 87.13 percent, exceeding the national pass rate of 79.91 percent,” said Dr. Cynthia Cross, Associate Dean of the College of Health Professions, Chief Nursing Administrator and Associate Professor at Anderson University.

According to South Carolina’s Commission on Higher Education (CHE), the Palmetto State ranks fifth in the nation for nursing exam pass rates on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), a required test for nursing graduates to be licensed to practice in the United States.

According to Dr. Rusty Monhollon, CHE president and executive director, the state and nation are struggling with a shortage of qualified nurses.

“South Carolina’s exceptional NCLEX pass rate indicates not only instructional excellence on the part of our institutions, but a strong dedication to the profession on behalf of our future nurses,” Dr. Monhollon said. The CHE reports that Anderson University is among 13 institutions in the state to achieve a pass rate of more than 90 percent.
