The Anderson University College of Engineering received a $30,000 grant from the Bosch Community Fund, which will benefit current and future engineering majors. Specifically, the grant will fund skills readiness for incoming freshmen and the Engineering Summer Institute for high school students taking place in July.

The Bosch Community Fund is investing in Anderson’s future by supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education initiatives across the area. By partnering with schools, libraries, colleges and community organizations, the Bosch Community Fund is equipping the next generation for high-demand STEM careers.

Anderson University College of Engineering Dean Dr. Lisa Zidek is grateful to the Bosch Community Fund for its longtime support that benefits current and future engineering students, and the active involvement of Bosch associates at Anderson’s Engineering Summer Institute and hosting students touring their local manufacturing plant (pictured below).

The Bosch grant will help the Anderson University College of Engineering as they establish a micro-credentialing program to help students attain the stronger mathematical skills demanded by the engineering profession, addressing a skills shortfall seen among incoming freshmen. Another important need is to provide opportunities to interested high school students and incoming Anderson University engineering majors to visit local engineering facilities, where they can explore career opportunities and gain exposure to various engineering disciplines.

The College of Engineering is also working on a practical skills development component with the goal of creating an industry-recognized micro credential that provides academic credit at Anderson University.

The grant will also benefit the Engineering Summer Institute, which consists of four one-day sessions taking place in July. The camp will take place at the College of Engineering’s new state-of-the art facilities in downtown Anderson—offering a spacious environment for hands-on experiences with equipment that includes a wind tunnel for testing aerodynamics.

We are thrilled to offer students multiple entry points into engineering through this grant,” Zidek said. “Whether they join our 4-session exploration series, earn a micro-credential through our one-week intensive in Engineering Problem Solving and Skills, or strengthen their foundation with supplemental math preparation for calculus and beyond, students gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive in high-demand STEM careers.
