The Anderson University College of Engineering received a grant from the Bosch Community Fund, which will benefit current and future engineering majors.
The $27,604 grant will fund Skills Readiness for incoming freshmen and the Engineering Summer Institute for high school students.
Anderson University College of Engineering Dean Dr. Lisa Zidek is grateful to the Bosch Community Fund for its longtime support that benefits current and future engineering students, and the active involvement of Bosch associates at Anderson’s Engineering Summer Institute and hosting students touring their local manufacturing plant.
The purpose of Skills Readiness, according Dr. Zidek, is to better prepare students for the math requirements that are unique to an engineering program. She feels that Skills Readiness has been effective.
“This has really helped a number of students and has improved their ability to complete a program early or on time and feel like they are ready for engineering coming in,” she said. “I also believe it helped some students figure out that maybe engineering wasn’t where they should be and identify a better major based off their skill set. That’s not a bad thing; that’s a really good thing.”
Dr. Zidek is excited that Anderson University will be hosting the 2025 Engineering Summer Institute, which for the first time will take place in the College of Engineering’s new building located in downtown Anderson. The Engineering Summer Institute consists of four one-day sessions taking place June 13, June 20, July 11 and July 25. A lot has happened since last July when the College of Engineering first moved downtown—state-of-the art classes and a spacious environment for hands-on experiences with equipment, which now includes a new wind tunnel for testing aerodynamics. She added that the Engineering Summer Institute has been fine-tuned to attract more high schoolers considering the field.
“It’s going to be exciting because we’re going to be doing this in our building. We’re going to be able to add to the types of activities we have because now we have all the equipment here in the facility,” she said.
