Kevin Massey

A native of Asheville, NC, Kevin Massey graduated from UNC Chapel as a Morehead Scholar thinking he wanted to be a doctor. Life happily led him into the arts and most importantly, to his wife, Kara, and then his son, Emerson. As Laura and Almanzo, they married each other every night in LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, the Musical, at the Guthrie Theater and toured North America together. Massey made his Broadway debut in the Tony Nominated revival of Deaf West’s BIG RIVER. This production went on to win a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theater for the entire ensemble cast.

Kevin has been lucky enough to play the leads in the broadway productions of TARZAN, MEMPHIS, A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER and WICKED. He also toured Europe as a lead in GREASE! and a German production of TARZAN, and most recently starred as Monty Navarro in the 1st national tour of the Tony Award ® Winning A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER. Some of his other favorites include originating leads in THREE MUSKETEERS at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, BONNIE & CLYDE at Asolo Repertory Theatre, BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE at Playwrights Horizons, GRUMPY OLD MEN, the MUSICAL at Ogunquit Playhouse and THE RIVALS, the musical at Bristol Riverside Theater. Kevin also helped develop early stage productions of Disney’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL and HUNCHBACK of NOTRE DAME. Other theater credits include Harold Bride in TITANIC and Malcolm in THE FULL MONTY both with Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, the title role in PIPPIN at Utah Shakespeare Festival, Willard in FOOTLOOSE at St. Louis’s MUNY, and Charlie in BRIGADOON at Utah Festival Opera. He also loves revisiting his bluegrass roots with his brother and best friend in their trio Manhattan Moonshine. Making the cross to the operatic stage, Massey made his Carnegie Hall Debut with the New York City Opera singing Eros in ANTONY & CLEOPATRA. Massey has also played Beppe I PAGLIACCI and Malcolm MACBETH for Opera Memphis, Arturo LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, Camille THE MERRY WIDOW and Remendado CARMEN for Asheville Lyric Opera, Graeme BLACK WATER for LA Theatre Works, Xerxes XERXES and Tamino DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE for Hill Hall Opera, Giuseppe LA TRAVIATA for Ash Lawn Opera Festival and York/George Shannon CORPS OF DISCOVERY for the Michael Ching Workshop. He sang Obadiah ELIJAH for Utah Festival Opera which was nationally broadcast as part of the Temple Square Concert Series in Salt Lake City, UT. During his time at UNC, Massey won the Concerto Competition singing Je crois THE PEARL FISHERS with the UNC symphony.
