Academic Background

I grew up in the Northern Illinois. My first career after graduate school was with Abbott labs in Chicago where I worked in the lab then moved into clinical research to bring an epilepsy drug to market. My husband and I lived in Boston for a few years, then settled in Winston Salem,NC where we raised our three children. I returned to school and completed a second BS in Nutrition and also the dietetic DPD and DI through UNCG and Meredith College. I taught A&P and Nutrition in the NC community college system.

BS Biology (UIUC) BS Nutrition (UNCG)

Fast Facts

Many people find A&P to be challenging courses but it’s hard to not be captured in awe of our amazing bodies. I strive to create a sense of community, collaboration and communication in the classroom by incorporating activities and encouraging conversation. I believe that if students feel less intimidated as they navigate new and difficult content, they will retain it better. My goal is for the students to end the semester with not only a solid foundation of knowledge of the human body, but also a sense of accomplishment that comes with successfully completing a challenging task.

I am very excited to teach at an institution that emphasizes integrity of character and education while maintaining exemplary compassion and love for others. I look forward to teaching students who are eager to learn and strive for excellence in their lives.

The practice of Dietetics is surprisingly vast. We study the intricate details of nutrients and human metabolism, disease treatment for inpatient and outpatient care, we manage food services in healthcare institutions, as well as assisting the underserved with receiving their food needs. Most states require the Registered Dietitian credential for licensure to legally practice medical nutrition therapy. Many students find the field both challenging and fulfilling. How our bodies use the nutrients we eat is fascinating and applies to everyone!
