Fast Facts

With a deep-seated passion for the history and roots of jazz dance, Katie teaches with a strong focus on the foundational techniques that inspired the greats. She also emphasizes layering diverse stylistic elements to help students grow into mature, versatile performers.

I’m passionate about teaching students that faith and the arts can be beautifully interwoven. That there is joy in the work that goes into honing your craft and there’s more to being an artist of faith than just what the audience sees.

I wish prospective students knew that a career in the performing arts is much more complex and diverse in it’s opportunities than they could possibly imagine. A career in the arts is not as linear as some other fields, but that’s what your time at University is so important- to learn how to navigate a career in the arts and set yourself up for success! There are many pathways that an artist can follow that will lead to rewarding and lucrative careers.

Katie spent 11 years in NYC as a professional choreographer, educator and performer. She taught Jazz, Tap, and Musical Theater at Broadway Dance Center and helped expand BDC’s Children & Teens program as the Studio Director when it opened a new Manhattan location in 2017. During her time in NYC, she was also a company member and guest choreographer for AlmaNYC Dance Company and taught Master Classes across the country in conjunction with Broadway Dance Center, Stage Door Connection, and Broadway Connection. Performance credits include the Broadway National Tour of Anything Goes (dance captain/swing), Regional: West Side Story (Anita), Footloose (Urleen), Guys & Dolls (Adelaide), and The Boy Friend (Masie).

I love all of the AU students! Working with these talented and passionate artists at the start of their journey into this complex career field is incredibly rewarding.
