Academic Background
Commercial and jazz guitarist Derick Cordoba has toured over 20 countries and has performed on over 20 recordings. His recordings have sold over 150,000 copies and been streamed over 1,000,000 times. He is the Director of the Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music and Assistant Professor of Music. Derick completed his doctorate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2017 where he studied with Larry Gray and Gabriel Solis. His Dissertation: Liturgical Jazz: The Lineage of the subgenre in the Music of Edgar E. Summerlin was in 2017

Teaching at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University gives me the opportunity to share my musical experience and my faith with our students and to help guide them in their performance and academic pursuits. I get to work with great students and colleagues who help our students launch their careers as performers and professionals in the music industry.
Music is a diverse field with so many paths that you can take throughout your journey. Students at Anderson University can pursue studies in commercial music, music technology, music education, musical theater, worship music, performance and much more! We are committed to allowing students to choose their path and to give them the tools they need to successfully follow it.
