Academic Background
With a B.A. in English from North Greenville University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Ashland University, Charity Yost Reed began teaching rhetoric and creative writing at Anderson University in 2014, the same year she gave birth to twins. She lives with her husband Ben, their two sons, and two miniature schnauzers in Sunset, South Carolina. For generations, her family has lived deep in these Appalachian Mountains that often inspire her work, which has been published by The Critical Pass Review, Olney Magazine, and The Magic of Us.

Fast Facts
I grew up in this area and saw the incredible value of the upstate, so I decided to stay here and invest in it. Originally, I applied at AU because it was close to home, but I have chosen to stay here because of the people.
I wish my students weren’t insecure about the mechanics of writing and knew coming into my class that I won’t make their papers bleed with red ink. We try to focus on good communication–getting the point across to your specific audience–in several modes, and all those minute details of the English language are only tools for creating clarity.
