Fast Facts

To explain my teaching philosophy, I need to go back to August 16, 2000 as I stood on the pier in Santa Monica, California overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I was a photojournalist for KPHO-TV based in Phoenix, Arizona, the flagship station for Meredith Corporation. I was covering the Democratic National Convention and was completely exhausted. My back ached from carrying a 25-pound camera, tripod, lights, and audio equipment all over the Staple Center. It was this moment I made a critical decision, one that changed my life forever — I decided to put down the camera and advance my career from technician to practitioner.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in this decision. I want to educate the next wave of business, educational, non-profit and ministry leaders to think critically as practitioners. From the moment I walk into a classroom, my goal is to challenge each person to think like practitioners and discover their God-given natural talents. Every year, there is an occasional magical moment as I scan through Facebook, go to a meeting, or even have a meal in a restaurant; I cross paths with one of my former students. It brings joy to my heart when I hear of their families, travels and careers. Some have even chosen to actually do business with me in the professional world.

We are all teachers, and we are all learners. It is my goal to use these three philosophical approaches to create the next wave of professionals, life-long learners, and practitioners for tomorrow’s knowledge economy.
