Program Director/Chair, School of Physical Therapy

Anderson University (South Carolina) and the School of Physical Therapy invite applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty member with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning as Program Director/Chair.  Anderson University is an innovative, entrepreneurial, premier comprehensive, liberal arts institution affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

Anderson University recognizes three paths for status in faculty employment: Annual Appointment, Professional Path, and Tenure-Track.  Annual Appointed faculty are hired as Instructors focused on teaching and learning.  Faculty hired in the Professional Path focus on teaching, learning and service.  After six years of exemplary performance, they may promote through faculty ranks and may become eligible for multi-year contracts.  Tenure-Track faculty focus on teaching and learning, service; and scholarship as well.  After six years of exemplary performance, Tenure-Track faculty earn tenure and may promote through faculty ranks.  All three paths are evaluated for mission fit.

Essential Functions

The Chair of the School of Physical Therapy will oversee all administrative responsibilities for the department as well as participate in and provide academic leadership for teaching, service, and scholarly activities. Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership to school program directors in the day-to-day management of School of Physical Therapy programs;
  • Leading the development of a stronger School research agenda while conducting extramurally-funded and internationally recognized scholarly activities;
  • Managing personnel-related activities, such as recruitment, new hire recommendations, and performance evaluations;
  • Coordinating and managing the School’s budgeting processes, and overseeing the School’s financial processes;
  • Providing leadership for academic and professional development, and DPT curriculum review/development;
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with affiliating institutions and agencies;
  • Providing constructive feedback and assistance to faculty, staff, and students on professional development, performance, and projects;
  • Identifying and establishing fundraising priorities and securing gifts from alumni, corporations, foundations, and/or supporters;
  • Designing processes that increase the representation of diversity within the student body and School personnel; and
  • Exploring entrepreneurial relationships with businesses and community organizations that can advance the clinical practice of physical therapy.
  • Maintenance of accurate information, easily accessible to the public, on the School’s website regarding accreditation status (or pre-accreditation statement) and current student achievement measures;
  • Timely submission of required fees and documentation, including reports of graduation rates, performance on state licensing examinations, and employment rates;
  • Following policies and procedures of CAPTE as outlined in the CAPTE Rules of Practice and Procedure;
  • Timely notification of expected or unexpected substantive change(s) within the program and of any change in institutional accreditation status or legal authority to provide post-secondary education; and
  • Coming into compliance with accreditation Standards and Required Elements within two years of being determined to be out of compliance.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • A post-professional academic doctorate degree
  • 6 years of experience in higher education with at least 3 years of experience in a physical therapy program
  • A licensed physical therapist
  • Strong Christian value system
  • An understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy education
  • Must have a strong desire to provide a positive impact on traditional and adult student learning
  • Lead in the assessment and continuous improvement of every aspect of the School
