Pathologists’ Assistant Studies

Program Goals

Our program goals follow that which is recommended by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Studies and are as follows:

  1. A fundamental exploration of medical terminology will enhance our students’ understanding throughout the course of their professional careers. 
  2. Our students will graduate with a deep understanding of normal anatomy and micro anatomy, physiology, and embryology. 
  3. Our students will develop understanding of the systemic effects of disease as they appreciate the general mechanisms of pathologic processes they will see grossly.
  4. Students will understand the role of microbial agents on the diseased body and the body’s immunological reaction to injury and disease. 
  5. The importance of the downstream effects of a Path A’s work will be appreciated as our students explore the clinical practice of histology. 
  6. Through continuous improvement and regular evaluation, our students will demonstrate the ability to prepare, grossly describe, and dissect surgical specimens from each level of complexity. 
  7. Our students will exhibit the skills and knowledge necessary to perform a human postmortem examination to include additional necessary studies such as toxicology and genetic studies. 
  8. A study of laboratory leadership and management will equip our students with administrative, budgetary, and supervisory knowledge and skills. 
  9. Our students will be prepared to effectively present information within a classroom or clinical setting through the study of teaching methods, learning styles and curriculum development. 
  10. Our students will understand the topic of medical ethics and the role it plays in daily laboratory function.
  11. Using several modalities, students will demonstrate ultimate and cumulative knowledge obtained along the duration of the program.
