Our Mission
Anderson University recognizes the importance of technology in academics. The University continually strives to advance the availability and use of technology in classrooms, as well as in the residence halls.
General Information
WIFI
AU IT wants to welcome you to Anderson University. As you begin your journey here, we want to provide you with some information regarding Internet connectivity. On-campus, you will find a few wireless networks you may use while here.
- Description: If your device supports connecting to this network, this should be your first choice for an Internet connection.
- Login: You will log into this network with your Anderson University username and password. Your username is your email address without “@andersonuniversity.edu”
- Supported Devices: Desktop and laptop computers (Windows, Mac, and Linux), iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, etc.
- Locations: Available in all academic and residential campus buildings.
- Description: For devices that only support connecting with a password, you will want to use this network.
- Login: Residential students will receive an email from no-reply@extremecloudiq.com with a unique access key. Please do not delete this email or share your access key with others.
- Supported Devices: Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, smart speakers, etc.
- Locations: Residential halls
- Description: This network is designated for guests of the university that do not have AU usernames/passwords to access Trojans@AU.
- Login: See the resident assistant or resident director in the residence hall for the password.
- Supported Devices: All
- Locations: Available in all academic and residential campus buildings.

STUDENT USE DEVICES
Anderson University offers several computer stations across campus for students to use as they need. Food and drinks are prohibited in all labs at all times.
The Thrift Library has mutiple workstations (both Mac and Windows) and a scanner/copier available for student use during normal library hours. These are Mac and Windows computers exclusively designated for printing needs of the students and university employees.

There are several specialized computer labs on campus. Food and drinks are prohibited in all labs at all times.
- The Math & CAD Labs have several workstations each, with the latter being equipped with a 36″ plotter/printer
- The Journalism & Graphic Design Labs are equipped with Macs. The Graphic Design Labs share specialized printers
- The Programming/Video Production Lab has 24 Mac computers.
- The Writing Center has 4 workstations.
Don’t save work to the local drives on any student use computer. When the computer is turned off, your work will be gone. Bring along a USB flash drive or use your cloud storage account to store files you are working on when using these computers. Make sure you get a fresh start by rebooting the computer you are working with. It will save you a lot of time and trouble!
CAMPUS PRINTING
Every student gets a print allowance of $20 every semester for usage on the university provided printers located in the Thrift Library and the Student Center print area. Printing is charged at the rate of $.05 per B/W side and $.25 per color side. The only color printer available for students is in the Thrift Library.
If a student needs to print more than their allowance will cover, they can go to AU Central and add money to their print balance. Money added to their print balance will be carried over from semester to semester and will only be used once their current semester allotment is consumed.
If the printer runs out of ink, doesn’t print correctly, or if you have computer problems, please contact the IT Help Desk.
Printing in the Residence Halls: Wi-Fi printing is not allowed in Anderson University’s residence halls. We recommend printers that work via USB or Bluetooth for your personal printing needs.
CAMPUS EMAILS
University employees and students are assigned an email address. You may access your email account via web browser or by using the Outlook desktop app. Your Anderson University email account is the required means the university faculty and staff will use to contact students about university-related matters.
Access to many of our AU systems is controlled via your AU email address, we therefore urge you to be very protective of your password and change it often. Your password will expire on a regular basis. You will start receiving a notice 30 days in advance of your password expiring so you will know to change it. If your password expires, you can use the “Forgot password” option from Microsoft or you can contact the Help Desk (864.231.2457) for assistance with this issue. If you reach out to the Help Desk for password assistance, you will be required to provide specific information to positively verify who you are. No Help Desk account resets can take place without positive identification or over email only. Help Desk assisted password resets can only be done with the owner of the account.
MICROSOFT OFFICE
Anderson University provides the current version of Microsoft Office for both PC and Mac via your Microsoft Office 365 subscription. This license allows students access to their current Microsoft Office suite at no charge during the time they have an active account with Anderson University.
Warning: Not all Office 365 applications will work on all operating systems
CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY
In addition to the iPads issued to most AU students and faculty, all AU classrooms are multimedia classrooms. The multimedia equipment includes a computer, a video projector or large-format display, Blu-Ray/DVD player, and audio and video conferencing devices.
Classroom systems are configured so that Apple IOS devices can be mirrored wirelessly onto the projection systems. Additional multimedia equipment is added to the classrooms as needed. All university-owned computers have either Microsoft Windows or Apple software and the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
Macs are also available in classrooms and labs, depending on technological needs and the area of study. Specialized software is made available in certain locations based upon user needs: SPSS, the AutoCAS product suite, Vectorworks, Enscape, Xcode, Adobe Creative Cloud…
Data Security
What is Data Security?
Over the last few years, data has taken a place of great importance. The collection of, processing of, and selling of data has created a greater focus on what data is and how it should be handled.
On May 25, 2018, the European Union implemented a first of its kind policy focused on Data Protection called GDPR. GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. This regulation requires all entities that collect or process data of individuals that reside in the European Union or store data of users on equipment that exists in the European Union make sure the users are informed of certain rights and that they are informed of certain privileges when it comes to their data:
- They must give consent to any entity that wants to process or store their data.
- They have the right to review what data an entity has stored pertaining to themselves.
- They have the right to change how their data is handled at any time.
This law has been the basis for many states and country laws concerning data privacy. These laws have been brought about mostly because of the misuse of people’s data. Malicious actors seek every opportunity to steal data about yourself and others because of the value that the processing and possession of this data has brought about.
What is Protected Under These Laws?
These laws apply to the protection of all data that identifies a specific individual from any other individual. This data is made up of some combination of the following:
- Name
- Identification numbers of any official nature
- Demographic information that is not publicly available
- Records of a personal nature that would be considered sensitive
What is Anderson University Doing?
In response to GDPR, the SafeGuards rule, and other laws created by state and local governments, Anderson University has implemented the following policies:
- We will handle all data collected by us in accordance with the guidelines of these laws.
- We will implement policies and procedures to secure all data storage and processing.
- We will limit access to all stored and processed data to only those users and applications that have a specific need to access it.
- We will only store data that is needed to process the user’s interactions with Anderson University. Some of this data is covered under specific laws and/or policies which determine the requirement for its storage.
We have also instituted policies and procedures to monitor all access to this data and respond appropriately to any access that is not authorized. Any breach of our systems will be responded to with measures appropriate to the event.
