Program Overview

The Secondary English Education program helps you develop the skills to teach and guide a diverse student population. You’ll be prepared to mentor and develop students who pursue higher education, as well as those entering the workforce after high school. Our teacher candidates are taught to focus on building the profile of a South Carolina graduate, including life and career characteristics that transfer to any career, such as integrity, perseverance, worth ethic and interpersonal skills. Anderson University’s close connections with private and public schools will help you network with educators to secure a teaching position.

In the Secondary English Education program, you will complete coursework in both your area of study and in educational pedagogy. Your curriculum will be a balance of building your content area knowledge and learning the foundational educational theories to build your teaching expertise.

Your Anderson University Secondary English Education degree certainly prepares you to become a certified educator. However, there are several career options available to you with this degree. Educators are in high demand across the country and a South Carolina certification is reciprocal in 47 states, creating an open path for you to step into any classroom across America. The median salary for a high school teacher is $61,820, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many educators chose to obtain master’s degrees to increase earning potential.

No previous degree is required to enroll in this program.

Two essays (prompts) or official SAT, ACT, or CLT scores are required during the application process.
Anderson University has a rolling admission process (students are notified when the are accepted whenever that is during the year) but students are encouraged to apply by the following dates: December 1st for the best scholarship consideration and no later than July 1st to begin in the fall semester.
