Associate Dean of the South Carolina School of the Arts

The South Carolina School of the Arts invites applications for Associate Dean.  This full-time faculty appointment will serve half-time as Associate Professor and half-time as Associate Dean of the SCSA. The AD position will assist the SCSA Dean in managing the academic programs of the SCSA.  The successful candidate will be qualified to teach within one of the three SCSA Departments; Art + Design, Music, or Theatre & Dance (preference given to Art + Design).  Significant arts leadership experience within higher education, dynamic faith integration, and a high level of organizational acumen are essential skills of the successful candidate.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Dean in implementing strategic initiatives and targeted projects
  • Coordinate the development of class and studio schedules among the three departments of the SCSA
  • Administer and process annual faculty evaluation for 1/3 of the full-time SCSA faculty
  • Provide support of and advocacy for shared spaces and facilities within SCSA and broader campus communities
  • Support department chairs in marketing/outreach initiatives for SCSA
  • Support recruitment efforts and admission strategies within the three departments of the SCSA
  • Administrative support to dept chairs for academic planning and curriculum development
  • Support departmental accreditations and various SACS requirements
  • Assist with visit events as necessary during the year

Additional Expectations

  • Reports to the Dean of the South Carolina School of the Arts
  • Earned terminal degree required from an accredited university, with credentials and professional activity that qualifies candidate for the rank of Associate Professor or above
  • Interacts regularly with members of Senior Leadership, academic leaders, and a range of offices across the university
  • Expertise and experience in arts administration within the higher education
  • Strong organizational skills, including meticulous attention to detail in a dynamic work environment, requiring adaptability and resilience
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and reliability
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Start date: Summer of 2025, no later than August 1, 2025.
