Research and Instruction Librarian

Anderson University and the Thrift Library invite applications for a 12-month, full-time administrative faculty member as Research and Instruction Librarian. Anderson University is an innovative and entrepreneurial comprehensive, liberal arts university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Job responsibilities for the Research and Instruction Librarian include:

  • Actively engages with faculty and students to understand their research and instruction needs, build collaborations, and promote library services.
  • Provides general and subject-specific information, research, and reference services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Plans, teaches, and assesses instruction in collaboration with faculty and other librarians.
  • Participates in collection development of print and digital resources.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned academic departments; creates and maintains related subject guides.
  • Locates, creates, organizes, and maintains digital content to support academic instruction.
  • Develops expertise in the technology and tools used in academic research.
  • Develops expected learning outcomes for instruction sessions that align with the University’s mission and instructional goals and professional standards.
  • Works collaboratively in a team environment to develop library collections and promote library resources and services to the University community.
  • Maintains familiarity with scholarly communications for teaching, learning, and research.
  • Creates and maintains research guides as needed.
  • Participates in professional development for the purpose of continuing education and contributing to the profession.
  • Actively demonstrates leadership by participating in professional responsibilities that serve the Thrift Library, Anderson University, the profession, and the community.

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree in library and information science. Candidates currently enrolled in and working toward completion of a master’s degree in library and information science may be considered. Previous coursework, training, or a strong interest in providing library services for the subject areas of Christian Studies, Business, English, and Modern Languages is preferred. A high level of comfort and proficiency in information and media literacy, electronic resources, library technologies, and integrated library systems is desired. Ability to work independently, prioritize among multiple competing projects, manage complex workflows, and sustain a high level of attention to detail is essential.
