Makerspace Manager

Anderson University’s Center for Innovation and Digital Learning seeks applications for a 12-month, full-time, Makerspace Manager. The Center for Innovation and Digital Learning seeks a dynamic and innovative Makerspace Manager to lead the operations of our state-of-the-art Makerspace. This pivotal role involves managing a cutting-edge workshop that empowers both faculty and students by providing access to advanced technology, tools, and resources for creative exploration and hands-on learning.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Operational Leadership: Direct all daily functions of the Makerspace, including opening and closing procedures, policy enforcement, event coordination, user registration, space utilization reporting, and general oversight to ensure a safe, organized, and inviting environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and operational readiness of a wide range of makerspace technologies, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, electronics workstations, textile crafts equipment, and immersive virtual reality systems.
  • Resource Management: Develop and maintain robust inventory and supply chain management systems for tools and materials. Monitor consumption, forecast needs, and procure supplies efficiently.
  • Educational Programming: Design and implement instructional sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance user capability and safety. Provide hands-on training and support to ensure all users can leverage makerspace resources effectively.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage a team of student assistants, fostering a culture of creativity, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Strategic Development: Continuously evaluate user feedback and technological trends to propose and integrate new equipment or programs that enhance the makerspace’s offerings.
  • Community and Outreach: Spearhead outreach initiatives to engage student groups, faculty, and the broader community. Develop partnerships with local businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations to foster an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship.

A bachelor’s degree and proven experience operating and maintaining a diverse array of makerspace equipment and software is required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills and project management skills with a proven ability to lead a team is also required. Previous experience in media production, including audio and video creation, with a demonstrated ability in simplifying and educating complex concepts is desired. A strong commitment to the academic and Christ-focused mission of Anderson University is essential.
