Academic Background

I have enjoyed an extensive and diverse career as a professional trombonist spanning over 45 years and beginning in the San Francisco area as a freelance musician, and later working as the lead/solo trombonist on the house band at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Resort Casino where I performed with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, George Benson, and many others. I’m currently the Principal/Solo Trombonist with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and am also active in other regional orchestras, brass quintets, jazz ensembles and combos, and am first call trombonist at the Peace Center for Broadway shows and other events. I have performed as a soloist at the Eastern Trombone Workshop, and the International Trombone Festival. The “Steve Wilson Septet Live in Asheville” CD is available at CD Baby. I am a Performing Artist/Clinician for the S.E. Shires Company.
